Water softeners are devices engineered to decrease the hardness of water. Water hardness is caused by high concentrations of dissolved minerals, primarily calcium. These minerals can cause a variety of problems, such as deposits in pipes and appliances, and dry skin and hair. Water softeners operate by using a process called ion exchange. This
